Octoberman

'Waiting in the Well' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 28, 2012

Octoberman hasn't released an album since 2009's Fortresses, and by the sound of things, songwriter Marc Morrissette has been mighty impatient to release the follow-up. A press release notes that Waiting in the Well "is about waiting," but now the wait is over, since the entire album is streaming here at Exclaim! ahead of its March 6 release date.

So why the wait? Well, in the midst of making the new album, Morrissette was diagnosed with a vocal polyp. This required surgery, and he was unable to talk for two weeks and was forced to not to sing for five months.

When he was finally able to finish the album, he recruited Jim Guthrie (Islands, Human Highway) and Andy Magoffin (Constantines, Great Lake Swimmers) to co-produce the album and Howie Beck (Feist, Jason Collett) to mix it. Recorded in Ontario following his move to Toronto from Vancouver, the album features Morrissette's usual Octoberman contributors, plus new friends from groups like the Wilderness of Manitoba and Cuff the Duke.

The resulting ten-song collection reportedly "showcases a more focused and poppier side of Octoberman's brand of folk rock heard on previous releases." Take a listen below for yourself, and check out the project's upcoming tour dates here.

Waiting in the Well is due out via Saved by Vinyl.
