In the two-plus years since Octoberman released Fortresses, songwriter Marc Morrissette has undergone some major life changes. He moved from Vancouver to Toronto, found a new band and now recorded a new album called Waiting in the Well, which is due out March 6 via Saved by Radio.
The album was recorded at London, ON's House of Miracles and was co-produced by Jim Guthrie (Islands, Human Highway) and Andy Magoffin (Constantines, Great Lake Swimmers), with mixing done by Howie Beck (Feist, Jason Collett). The record features guest contributions from members of Cuff the Duke, FemBots and the Wilderness of Manitoba, plus go-to Canuck trumpeter Shaun Brodie. According to a press release, it "showcases a more focused and poppier side of Octoberman's brand of folk rock."
The title comes from the book The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, and it reportedly alludes to Morrissette's recent vocal surgery, which left him unable to sing for five months. But don't worry about the operation having a negative impact on Morrissette's singing, since the album reportedly showcases "the permeation of a voice deeply connected with its subject, weary and worn and willing to dive below the surface to understand its root."
For a taste of the new material, check out the bouncy album cut "Dressed Up" at the bottom of the page. Head to Bandcamp and you can also hear The Sweater EP, which was released back in the fall and contains bonus material from the album sessions.
