Just over a year after delivering Lousy with Sylvianbriar, Kevin Barnes and the rest of Of Montreal have announced another album release is just around the corner. Dubbed Aureate Gloom, the discofied popsmiths' latest comes down the pipeline March 3 through longtime label Polyvinyl Records.
A press release explains that this latest Of Montreal album was conceived by Barnes during a writer's retreat in New York and workshopped in hometown Athens, GA, before being recorded at Tornillo, TX's Sonic Ranch studio. The 10-song set is said to reflect "the overall state of [Barnes'] life and mental outlook" throughout the process.
"I was going through a very stormy period in my life and felt like I was just completely trashed," Barnes explained in a statement of the reportedly personal project. "I might be guilty of sharing or exposing too much of my private life, but to me the best albums are those that help people connect with an artist on a deep, human level and that do so without too much artifice or evasiveness."
Down below, you'll find the laser-guided slice of disco-pop that serves as first single "Bassem Sabry," along with a full tracklisting for Aureate Gloom and date details on an upcoming U.S. tour.
