Oh Astro

Normal, IL duo Oh Astro are comprised of married couple Hank Hofler and Jane Dowe. Their Illegal Art debut, Champions of Wonder, is almost entirely based on un-cleared samples. Unlike label-mate Girl Talk (whose source material is amplified by his editing), however, Oh Astro’s work transforms the samples into lush mini-symphonies to the point where the source material is nearly irrelevant. Their work gets particularly transcendent on tracks like "Lucy Sees The Moon” and "Robot Love I Love You,” where recorded children’s songs transform into futuristic cabaret tunes. By approaching their craft with the care of a skilled musician, Oh Astro take illegal sampling to masterful new depths.
