Offering up everything from party punk to G.O.O.D. rap to interpretive dance-loaded electro-pop, VICE Island was diverse to say the least, and Syrian electronic experimenter Omar Souleyman only added to it all. With a simple two-man setup of Souleyman on the mic and a backing player manning a pair of beat-inducing synths, the traditionally garbed singer proceeded to deliver slow-motion dance moves, stoic claps and back-and-forth hand gestures, all the while infiltrating the island's airspace with his reverb-drenched vocals. It wasn't a lot to look at, but Souleyman still amped up the Middle Eastern psych-dance vibes, highlighting tracks from last year's Four Tet-produced Wenu Wenu. Little was lost in translation on the swag-craving crowd, but Omar Souleyman might have been a bit too cool, calm and collected to really get this party started.
