Syrian electronic culture-masher Omar Souleyman already counts Björk and Gorillaz among his collaborators, and now he can add Four Tet to that list. Souleyman recruited Four Tet mastermind Kieran Hebden for his first proper album.
Souleyman has released various informal collections over the years, but this one is being billed as his debut studio album. It was produced by Hebden in New York and will arrive in the fall through Ribbon Music.
The title and exact release date are still up in the air, but an interview with Spin reveals that Souleyman and keyboardist Rizan Sa'id recorded the album with relatively little input from Hebden and then sent it to him for mixing and touch-ups.
"Our music doesn't change. Everywhere we go it's the same. Recording in America doesn't change anything," Souleyman said via an interpreter, adding, "The most important thing is that the recording comes out clean and gets good distribution. If that happens, I benefit of course."
Hebden said, "The making of this album was a very simple and natural thing that for me was just about capturing the sound of these incredible musicians in the moment."
