Brooklyn retro rock noisemakers Oneida have finally dished out details of their forthcoming studio full-length, Preteen Weaponry. On August 5, the album is set to drop via their own label, Brah Records, and promises to embrace the bands more instrumental, jammier side. The record also marks the first chapter in the Thank Your Parents project, the bands new three-part commentary on the state of recorded popular music.
Via the bands website, Oneida explain all (kind of): "All of you suckers who still buy CDs, I feel sorry for you (and for me but for other reasons Im not going to go into here), but Oneidas still gonna hook you up. We made a new one. Its called Preteen Weaponry and its the first installment of the Thank Your Parents trilogy, which is a thesis on the state of recorded popular music in the 21st century. The thesis is that you can record music and make CDs, LPs and then transfer the stuff into MP3s of various qualities.
On record, what all this translates to is one big 40-minute jam divided into three parts with very little reliance on the vocal front a move that should come as no surprise to most longtime followers. However, if you fear youll miss the trios lovely "singing voices, the band plan to bring them back in 2009 with their long-threatened triple album titled Rated O, which the band say they are putting the finishing touches on right now.
In non-album Oneida news, the group are also gearing up for their Dont Look Back-style performances of their 2005 album, The Wedding. Throughout the bands summer tour dates, Oneida have promised to deliver a full-on mixed media spectacle that will feature the album in its entirety, "re-envision [The Wedding] as an abstract narrative" and "present [each show] as a unique hybrid of multimedia concert and non-didactic rock opera." (We are unsure if these fancy words come from the band themselves or some clever publicist, but either way, it all sounds pretty nuts.)
