Canadian alt-rockers Our Lady Peace have detailed their promised new album Spiritual Machines 2 — a "direct sequel" to their 2000 concept album Spiritual Machines.
Described as "future rock," the 15-track record was produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and will follow its predecessor in exploring the themes of futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil's 1999 book The Age of Spiritual Machines. Like the first Spiritual Machines LP, the new record features spoken excerpts and new futurist predictions from Kurzweil.
OLP singer Raine Maida said in a press release, "Twenty years later, Spiritual Machines' predictions have mostly come true, 86% to be exact. Now, new predictions must be made for the future — and with groundbreaking advances in technology, there's reason to celebrate."
The record was previewed earlier this month by the Pussy-Riot-featuring single "Stop Making Stupid People Famous," which came with a music video celebrating young leaders like teen climate activist Sophia Mathur, mental health activist Kenidra Woods, Saudi Arbian piano prodigy Eman Gusti, and future Mars astronaut Alyssa Carson.
Our Lady Peace's last record was 2018's Jason Lader-produced Somethingness. As of now, there's no official release date for Spiritual Machines 2.
We recently spoke with Raine Maida about the NFT boom and his involvement in S!NG, an app designed to help musicians create NFTs.
