Parquet Courts Announce Pair of 7-Inch Splits, Share Song

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 17, 2015

Prolific purveyors of punky garage rock Parquet Courts dropped Content Nausea last year under the moniker Parkay Quarts, then returned to their original name and teamed up with Jack White to deliver a Live at Third Man Records LP earlier this spring. Now, the Brooklyn-based unit have unveiled plans for their next releases — a pair of split 7-inch singles.

The first hears them swapping songs with Joey Pizza Slice. Parquet Courts cover "Pretty Girls," while Joey Pizza Slice (who obviously also goes by the name Son of Salami) takes on "Picture of Health." The single will arrive on August 11 via Wharf Cat, and just 500 copies will be released.

The label describes Parquet Courts' contribution as a "summer jam that will get you stoked about cloudy days and being ignored all the time," while Joey Pizza Slice is described as "filling the vocals with helium and letting them loose like balloons into a hazy summer sky." You can see the single's artwork pictured above.

Next up, Parquet Courts will buddy up with Brooklyn band Big Ups for a 7-inch release of a live recording from a recent show. 300 copies will be released on VERA/LIVE on August 14.

Below, listen to Parquet Courts' summer-friendly (but maybe not workplace friendly) take on Joey Pizza Slice's "Pretty Girls," in which they list off a number of things that are "motherfuckers."
