Steven Sebring's Sundance award-winning documentary on punk icon Patti Smith is going to see a theatrical release in 2008 after being picked up by Palm Pictures. Patti Smith: Dream of Life will be hitting the big screen this coming September.

Smith met Sebring for the first time in 1996 when he was photographing her for a story in Spin Magazine. He was apparently so moved after seeing her perform live that he asked if her could start filming her. Eleven years later the film was completed and praised at Sundance for its in-depth look at the groundbreaking poet, artist and musician.

Patti Smith began turning heads in New York in the late 1960s and is credited with helping give birth to punk rock. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
