Close to 40 years after the Beatles sarcastically sung that "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," Paul McCartney has been tapped to contribute new music for a first-person shooting game called Destiny.
The videogame, put together by Bungie and Activision for the PlayStation and Xbox systems, is due September 9 and features a score McCartney prepped with composers Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori. The New York Times reports [via Pitchfork] that the score took four years to record, and was tracked at studios in New York, Los Angeles and London. According to the Times, the Destiny score is interactive, with musical sequences and cues depending on the decisions the gameplayer makes.
Macca, meanwhile, has also contributed the theme song, which was recorded with a 120-piece ensemble at Abbey Road that was directed by Giles Martin, the son of George Martin. In addition to being featured in the game, which created by the makers of Halo, the theme song is also expected to arrive as a single.

This isn't the only tech-savvy venture for McCartney of late, with the artist having recently reissued a series of Wings albums as iPad apps. He also has more traditional reissues of Venus and Mars and Wings at the Speed of Sound out September 23 on CD, vinyl and digitally.
