Sir Paul McCartney is writing a musical adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life.
The former Beatle is working with Billy Elliot playwright Lee Hall and producer Bill Kenwright to develop a stage version of Frank Capra's classic 1946 film.
The film tells the story of banker George Bailey in the midst of a financial crisis. After attempting to take his own life, Bailey's self-worth and will to live is restored by a guardian angel who shows Bailey the grim realities of a world without him in it.
McCartney hadn't set out to write a musical, but says that after meeting Hall and Kenwright, he "found myself thinking this could be interesting and fun."
The production of It's a Wonderful Life is slated to launch in late 2020, though a firm premiere date and venue have not yet been announced.
