Pavement Unveil Best-Of Comp, Prep Reissues

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jan 5, 2010

While the jury is still out on whether Pavement will ever record any new material, the recently reunited indie rockers will soon give themselves a pat on the back via a new greatest-hits package. After all, the guys need something new to sell at the merch table during those reunion dates.

The upcoming 23-track release has been given the title Quarantine the Past: The Best of Pavement, and it will be release on double-LP, CD and digitally on March 9 via Matador in North America and a day earlier via Domino in the UK. No tracklisting has been announced, but according to Matador's announcement, "The tracks span the entirety of Pavement's career from 1989 to 1999, from the scratchy and mysterious sounds of their early vinyl-only releases to the rich, multilayered warmth of their final recordings. Although the compilation does not include any unreleased material, it definitely digs deeper than the hits."

If you'd like to make a game out of guessing which tracks will appear on Quarantine, Matador is running a pretty sweet little contest here, where you could win such prizes as a trip to see Pavement back in real live action. To help get your guessing going, Matador has confirmed Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain's "Gold Soundz" will be the first track on the comp, and you can listen to that one here.

Along with the greatest-hits package, the label will be reissuing Pavement's entire Matador catalogue on as "L(ow) P(rice) vinyl." Also, we can get ready for a deluxe redux of the band's last album Terror Twilight next fall.

More Pavement reunion dates are set to be announced sometime soon, so if you don't see your city on the list below, just keep your fingers crossed.
