Pelican

After the Ceiling Cracked

BY Max DeneauPublished Feb 21, 2008

Pelican’s rise to the upper echelons of the post-metal scene has finally been acknowledged with a widely available DVD release. Documenting a 2005 performance in London, UK, Pelican draw from a variety of material, up to and including songs from that year’s The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw. Additionally, there are a number of bonus live numbers spanning the group’s entire career. The sound quality is exceptional, and the group seem tighter than usual — the group’s songs are occasionally hindered by erratic performances from drummer Larry Herweg, however. Set opener "March to the Sea” is a highlight, along with the venue-levelling "Australasia.” It may have taken a few years for this to see release but the wait has been well rewarded with a quality package that will please fans and newcomers alike.
