Chicago attention-span testers and post-rock instrumental shoegazers Pelican are celebrating their tenth birthday. And how do rock guys celebrate birthdays? Box sets and beers. It's timeless.
The Pelican box set will come out on October 19 through Berlin, Germany's Viva Hate Records. According to a press release, it's "elegantly packaged" and comes in a wood box, is limited to 500 copies and contains material from the band's four full-lengths and three EPs.
Who cares, you say? Let's talk about beer? Well, if you're lucky enough to be in Chicago on October 23, you can check out the band performing live at the Bottom Lounge while you sip on a specially crafted Pelican brew. Munster, Indiana's Three Floyds Brewery will unveil a special Doppelbock - one of the few beers all the Pelican dudes can agree on, apparently - at the event, which they created especially for Pelican's B-day. (We have a hunch some seriously metal dudes work at Three Floyds, as they also have brews called Behemoth and Dark Lord). The as-of-yet-unnamed brew will be available in the Chicago area for a limited time, both in watering holes and specialty shops.
And if you're in L.A., don't miss Pelican playing with doom metal kingpins Goatsnake on October 30 at the Troubador.
Pelican's last album was 2009's What We All Come to Need.
