At the turn of the decade, Tom Russell (a.k.a. Truss) dropped his first EP for Ali Wells' Perc Trax label. The two UK techno heads appeared to be kindred spirits, yet it took three years for them to put out a collaborative effort, last year's Spiker twelve-inch, which arrived on the nascent Perc Trax Limited sub-label. For that release, the duo made an effort to slam their tracks down in a single take: no edits, no second chances. Pure, caustic, menacing junkyard techno was seared into the grooves of the vinyl platter.
Taking this philosophy even further is Two Hundred, which is noisier, darker and more aggressive than its predecessor. The title track is dance floor-ready, yet distinctly evil in nature, an acid-drenched screaming match. "Judd" is steeped in alien noise, while "Forever Your Girl" and "Van Der Valk" are complex, skull-splitting thumpers perfect for exploring haze-ridden post-industrial cityscapes. A full-length effort from these two maestros is certainly in order.
