While it's no rib, Perry Farrell has shared that the Glitz and Glamour of his rockstar lifestyle recently required him to have spinal surgery, leading the removal of his larynx as part of the procedure.
As Farrell recalled of his recognizable instrument in conversation with Classic Rock magazine [via NME], "They had to remove my voice box and put it on a table. That was daunting."
According to the Jane's Addiction vocalist, the successful operation stemmed from issues with his cervical discs "mostly from partying and leaning back my head to rip out notes and surfing and dancing around…there's a long list."
Farrell joked, "They literally exposed my skeleton, took the discs out and put in artificial discs. So now I am a quarter inch taller and twice as attractive to my wife."
Farrell's new box set The Glitz; The Glamour arrived earlier this month, collecting solo material, work from early bands Satellite Party and Psi Com, and much more.
In January, Farrell will pay tribute to David Bowie alongside Trent Reznor, Macy Gray, Billy Corgan and more.
