For all of the antics the Libertines have been known for, this may be the strangest — and the least detrimental. Noel Fielding has detailed his first-ever interaction with Pete Doherty, who apparently gave him a top hat filled with twelve kittens.
Recalling the incident on an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks where they were both present, Fielding told the story of the hotel party where the incident went down.
"Before I ever met Pete, I was a big fan and I think Up the Bracket had come out and I loved that album, and I was in a hotel room with a bunch of people partying and the door went," he said. "Someone went, 'It's Pete Doherty,' and I was like, 'Let me answer it,' because I was a bit starstruck.
"And I opened the door and there was no one there. And this is a true story, there was a top hat on the floor with 12 kittens in it," he continued.
Doherty apparently doesn't remember that night as well as Fielding does: "Something's emerging from the past, I can see a hotel corridor and kittens but nothing else," he said. When asked where he acquired the kittens, Doherty replied, "From a cat! Where do you think?"
It's nice to see a Libertines member have a fond memory with another British celebrity, unlike drummer Gary Powell's experience with Morrissey.
