Earlier this year, Bauhaus alumnus Peter Murphy was arrested in a suspected hit-and-incident and subsequently entered a not-guilty plea. Now, however, he's pled guilty to meth position and no contest to the hit-and-run charge, by which he has avoided jail time.
The Glendale News-Press [via Slicing Up Eyeballs] reports that Murphy appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court last Thursday (October 10) and was sentenced to three years of probation and 45 days of Narcotics Anonymous meetings. He has also agreed to random drug tests and must complete 10 days of community service stemming from the hit-and-run charge.
If Murphy completes everything successfully, the drug charges will be removed from his record entirely.
The incident occurred on March 16, when he rear-ended a car in Glendale and drove away. He was pursued by an eyewitness, who managed to block in Murphy's car until he was apprehended several miles away. After the police handcuffed Murphy and put him in the back of their car, they found a small bag of meth where he had been sitting inside the car.
In more positive news, the songwriter is reissuing his album Love Hysteria next month.
