Combining the trashy garage punk aesthetic of the Cramps with the industrial strength metal of Type O Negative and the atonal dissonant weirdo synth-pop of Devo, Oakland's Phantom Limbs have created a soundtrack to some make-believe Circus Horrificus that would feature human amputation and genital manipulation as feature attractions. Apparently, their live shows are something to behold, and if this disc is any indication, one can only imagine, but even in the absence of the visuals, the music holds its own. Much like early Alice Cooper records, some people will be shocked, others offended, while most won't appreciate or even get it, then again, maybe that's the point.
