Phil Anselmo jumped into a solo career earlier this year via a split with Warbeast, and now the Down/Pantera/Superjoint Ritual vocalist has issued more details about a long-planned full-length assault. The metal legend's upcoming Walk Through Exits Only, attributed to Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, arrives July 16 through his own Housecore Records.
While a tracklisting has yet to pop up in full, a press release notes that the eight-song set was recorded over the past couple of years by Michael Thompson and Anselmo at his New Orleans studio Nodferatu's Lair. Song titles revealed thus far include "Battalion of Zero," "Usurper's Bastard Rant" and the title track. Apparently, the record is a game-changing crusher.
"It wasn't about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record," Anselmo said in a statement of the seemingly rage-laced record. "It's an angry album that only I could do. I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I'm screaming about. On this album, there isn't any wordplay, there isn't any hidden message, it's all right there in front of you."
Anselmo and his Illegals — guitarist Marzi Montazeri and drummer Jose Manuel "Blue" Gonzales — will support the set with North American dates this summer, though the show specifics have yet to be released.
