Amid a wave of accusations and statements about Marilyn Manson's alleged abuse of several women, Phoebe Bridgers has come forward with a startling account of a visit to the rocker's home.
In a tweet, the singer-songwriter explained that she stands with those who have come forward, and condemned Manson's management, label and band for not speaking out sooner.
She wrote:
I went to Marilyn Manson's house when I was a teenager with some friends. I was a big fan. He referred to a room in his house as the "r*pe room", I thought it was just his horrible frat boy sense of humor. I stopped being a fan.
The label knew, management knew, the band knew. Distancing themselves now, pretending to be shocked and horrified is fucking pathetic.
Bridgers' account follows Evan Rachel Wood's statement about her former partner, in which she alleged that he had "horrifically abused" her during their relationship, "brainwashed and manipulated [her] into submission" and began grooming her when she was only a teenager.
This week, Manson has been denounced by Trent Reznor and former bandmate Wes Borland, dropped by his label and cut from upcoming TV appearances on American Gods and Creepshow as a result of the allegations.
In support of Wood and other victims, Manson's ex-fiancée Rose McGowan issued a statement of solidarity, while his ex-wife Dita Von Teese shared that the "details made public do not match [her] personal experience."
Manson issued his own statement earlier this week, denying all claims of abuse, and calling them "horrible distortions of reality."
