As we mentioned last month, slick French popsmiths Phoenix have lined up a new album grandly titled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which is set to drop on May 25 (a label hasn't been attached to the record, but we can only assume it will be their long-time home of Virgin).
The band have been kind enough to give away the first evidence of their fourth longplayer. According to front-man Thomas Mars, "this album shares many similarities with United, our first one." "1901" definitely utilizes electronics the way they did in their earlier days, opening with a farting synth that's very French touch. But if anything, I feel this is still moving along the same path of Phoenix's last disc, It's Never Been Like That, with the high note Strokes-like guitar strums and the overall soft-rockness of their sound. No complaints here though - anything new from Phoenix is always a blessing disguised in saccharine and sophistication.
