Relapse Records recently paid tribute to their friend and longtime director of retail sales Pat Egan, who passed away late last month from pneumonia and other complications, via the release of an online benefit comp called Patlapse. Pig Destroyer were one of the many acts involved in the project, but the vicious grinders are now serving up a tribute EP of their own called Mass & Volume.
The Bandcamp-only offering features two unreleased tunes, the 19-minute epic "Mass" and "Volume." Both songs were recorded during the sessions for the band's 2007 LP Phantom Limb and are exclusive to the EP. Proceeds from the release will be donated to the college fund of Egan's daughter, Katie.
"Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it," the band wrote in a statement. "He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched."
