In the wake of Touch and Go's economic meltdown, today we see the first signs of artist exodus. Pinback, one of the floundering label's most successful and commercially viable acts, have announced they're jumping ship and inking a deal with Temporary Residence, the Brooklyn-based label home to such bands as Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium and Mono.
Along with the new deal, Pinback have given the heads-up on a new album, which will follow up on the group's 2007 effort Autumn of the Seraphs. At this point, though, all they're giving us to go on is that the group's yet-untitled Temporary Residence debut will be out sometime in 2010.
Here's what Pinback have to say about the label shift:
Pinback would like to thank Touch and Go Records for putting out our last 2 releases. We have nothing but good things to say about the label. It's hard to see them go. The releases that they did over the last 25+ years have been an inspiration to us, and it was an honor to be on the label. We hope that Touch and Go Records will rise again, they have been such a positive influence on us. We made a lot of friends over the course of the 5 years we were there, we felt like we were a part of a family. You couldn't ask for anything more. We wish Corey Rusk and everyone that worked there the best. At the same time we are looking forward to starting a new chapter in Pinback's future with Temporary Residence. It's important to us that the label we are a part of has a down-to-earth, genuine 'human vibe' to it. We feel this is the case at Temporary Residence. We can't wait and are looking forward to writing a solid new record for them.
