Vancouver multitasker Stephen McBean has been plotting a new album from Pink Mountaintops for several years, and now he's finally ready to roll out his fourth LP with the project. Get Back is due out on April 29 through Jagjaguwar/Outside.
McBean — who also plays in Black Mountain, Obliterations and Grim Tower — is currently based out of Los Angeles, and evidently he's been rubbing shoulders with lots of other musicians, since Get Back features contributions from J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Anne Hardy (Giant Drag), Rob Barbato (the Fall, Cass McCombs), Gregg Foreman (Cat Power), Daniel Allaire (Brian Jonestown Massacre) and more.
The album was mixed by Randall Dunn (Sunn 0))), Black Mountain) and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Ramones). According to a press release, it was inspired by, "Alleys, curbs, walls, and cigarette-stained gig flyers. An island on the Pacific coast. Fake British towns. Slayer posters. The beauty of youth. It's about listening to 'Driver's Seat' and 'Guns of Brixton' and hotboxing the Duster."
Below, scroll past the tracklist to stream the Anne Hardy-featuring avant-punk tune "North Hollywood Microwaves." A press release calls it "quite possibly the filthiest song in the Jagjaguwar catalog," since Hardy's verse is truly raunchy.
