PJ Harvey

"The Orange Monkey"

While PJ Harvey officially makes her return next week with her long-awaited The Hope Six Demolition, the UK songwriter has offered up a few teases from the collection in recent weeks. Ahead of the full project, she's now streamed out a haunted shuffled called "The Orange Monkey."

The track, which follows previews "The Wheel" and "The Community of Hope," was premiered today (April 7) through Matt Wilkinson's Beats 1 program. Like those earlier previews, which respectively home in on time spent in Kosovo and Washington, DC, "The Orange Monkey" is presented as a travelogue.

It's described in a gang singalong, steered by Harvey's distinctive pipes, that a plane trip to a foreign land placed her face-to-face with the titular figure. The track rumbles along via a bed of tapped percussion and staccato organ lines.

You'll get the full breakdown of what happened via the player down below, while The Hope Six Demolition Project arrives April 15 through Island Records.
