Connecting even more prestige to M for Montreal's tradition of showcasing unique and impressive bands at Toronto festivals, Montreal's Plaster added one more notch in the belt of their much-heralded hometown with a solid set of rough-edged sonic diversity at the city's cavernous Sneaky Dee's. Deep, driving hard rock fronted by an effects-drenched bass guitar tweaked to kick out synth lines got the set going before giving way to more melodic turns midway through. The initial, fast-revving power sound would soon return, however, when the adventurous musicians, joined by an MC, took a run through a barrage of meaty, dubbed-out punk. A second female guest vocalist would eventually walk the crew across the bridge to a more old-school breakbeat aesthetic, accompanied by sampled, throwback, schoolyard-styled choruses, followed by an eerie and climactic flourish of knob-twiddling chaos to close out a romping rundown of bass-rooted, room-rocking musicianship.
