Ontario-based heavy outfit Please Drown offer up a crushing blend of blackened sludge, doom and crust with their debut self-titled EP. Featuring members of Mad Trapper and Pretty Mouth, the quartet keep things raw, dark and oppressive over these four tracks.
"The Silencing Machine" starts the EP off with some distressing feedback before fuzzy guitars and crashing, hollow drums take hold while harsh vocals roar overhead. "Fear" stands in stark contrast, kicking up the speed level with discordant crust-y rhythms at the beginning before deconstructing midway through into a pool of noise and drone. Highlight "Vultures to Feed" is stunningly aggressive and exceptionally well composed, filled with dense riffs and suffocating noise, and "World Deception" finishes the EP with a feedback-laden, murky guitar line that weaves through the intense, doom-tinged sludge.
Please Drown is a solid set of tracks that showcase a band with tons of promise.
