Though its been a decade since we last heard from Polvo, details have arisen about a return by the favourite indie rockers. The note-bending noisemakers will be one of this years token reunited acts for the All Tomorrows Parties festival taking place at Butlins Holiday Resort in Minehead, England the weekend of May 16 to 18. In addition they have been added to the ATP stage at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona two weekends later (May 29), but will start the proceedings on American soil with warm-up gigs in Washington DC at the Black Cat (May 9) and the Cats Cradle in Carrboro, NC the next night (May 10).
For those unfamiliar with Polvo, the band rose from the celebrated Chapel Hill indie scene in 1990, eventually signing with local heroes Merge for two albums and an EP (1992s Cor-Crane Secret and 1993s Todays Active Lifestyles, and 1994s Celebrate the New Dark Age) before moving on to Touch & Go for another two (1996s Exploded Drawing and 1997s Shapes).
Polvo disbanded in 1998, and vocalist/guitarist Ash Bowie (who once almost walked away with this writers wallet long story) continued playing bass with girlfriend-at-the-time Mary Timony in Helium, before moving on to the solo project called Libraness. Co-vocalist/guitarist Dave Brylawski moved on to form Idyll Swords and the Black Taj. Drummer Eddie Watkins also played with Dr. Powerful. Watkins, however, will be replaced for the reunion by Brian Quast, formerly of the Cherry Valence.
No word has been given as to whether the band will do any dates beyond these four performances.
