Suckers

Brooklyn's Suckers play a collage of wildly textured, polyrhythmic dance rock with more tenacity than you can shake a stick at. For their Pop Montreal show, the quartet blazed through a collection of songs off Wild Smile and their self-titled EP, while guitarists/vocalists Quinn Walker and Austin Fisher harmonized and traded vocal duties. But the band truly shone on Wild Smile's gem: the acid-washed anthem "Black Sheep." For tracks like "2 Eyes 2 C," singer Walker playfully emulated Prince's "I Would Die 4 U"-era hand gestures, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering the guitar riffs on a lot of Suckers songs pack the same punch as early Prince B-sides. Suckers played a frenetic, fist-pumping show, and if you're lucky enough to see them, hold on to your hats.
