Portishead Offer Special Box Set Edition of New Album

Say what you will about Radiohead’s "innovative” marketing approach to In Rainbows, but since the album’s release, some pretty big-name acts have been "pulling a Radiohead” — the latest being Portishead.

While the UK trip-hoppers are not going the pay-what-you-want route with Third, the band’s first album in 11 years, they are mirroring the Radiohead box, with their own, well, Portishead box.

In the lead-up to Third’s April 28 release date, a limited-edition box set edition of the album became available to pre-order online via the band’s website today (March 18). The box set, which is limited to 10,000 copies worldwide, includes a double vinyl version of the album, a P-shaped 1GB USB, an etched 12-inch of the single "Machine Gun” and a limited-edition print from Nick Uff. And with that fancy-pants USB you get the album, as well as six promo films. (Sorry CD people, nothing for you.)

And the price tag? Eighty Canadian dollars, which isn’t all that bad when you compare it to Trent Reznor’s $300-something Ghosts special edition.
