The Postal Service reunion has us feeling a little nostalgic about 2003, and, miraculously, some new footage has surfaced that explains just how Jimmy Tamborello and Ben Gibbard first teamed up to make electro-pop magic.
The "audition tapes," unveiled by comedy site Funny or Die, find Tamborello and a Sub Pop suit interviewing a cast of vocal hopefuls in order to find "a shirtless maniac out there for all the girls to get wet over."
A guy name Denny Rock that sure looks like Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster tries his luck, as does a post-Sunny Day Real Estate Nate Mendel, who tries to work the Sub Pop card in his favour. Other hopefuls include Aimee Mann, Blink-182's Tom DeLonge, Duff McKagan, "Weird" Al Yankovic, a primal-screaming Moby, Helmet's Page Hamilton, and a righteous hippie flautist. Gibbard ultimately wins out with his nerdish charm.
You can see the tapes down below.
As previously reported, Postal Service deliver their 10th anniversary reissue of Give Up April 9 via Sub Pop. They'll also be hitting up Vancouver and Toronto later this year on their reunion tour. You can see the show schedule here.
