Back in the summer, we told you that hard-working glitch rap producer Prefuse 73 was hunkering down to record his latest album, which was to feature vocal contributions from Zola Jesus and Dirty Projectors' Angel Deradoorian, among others. After months of work, the artist also known as Guillermo Scott Herren has resurfaced with his new album in tow.
Titled The Only She Chapters, the record further expands the sonic palette of the avant-garde electro beatsmith. But while past efforts relied on screwed samples and loops, his latest is more of a compositional affair. A press release for the record describes Herren's latest as "a body of music closer in spirit to esteemed modern compositional pieces" than his traditional "beats and loops" ethos.
Adding to the altered aesthetic of Prefuse 73's seventh full-length are the various female contributors, from a tune sung by the late Trish Keenan of Broadcast to the artwork helmed by illustrator Yuko Michishita and photographer Angel Ceballos.
"This record is a weird one for me," Herren said in a statement. "The process features all women vocalists and voices and the music was recorded very differently from how I normally work. This can be seen as a departure from other albums but it's not a departure intended to leave people feeling alienated or baffled. It's just a different way to interpret my music and it's an open invitation for anyone that wants to listen."

While Herren hasn't announced any upcoming Prefuse 73 shows, the press release says he will be touring in some capacity with synth-driven drone artist Oneohtrix Point Never.
