Prince's Sister Claims His Favourite Colour Was Actually Orange

"Orange Rain" doesn't have quite the same ring to it

Prince has long been associated with the colour purple — whether because of iconic albums like Purple Rain and Indigo Nights, or his home and stage décor. And in the wake of his death, most tributes had a purple hue to them — from Beyoncé's live homage to Niagara Falls lighting up violet to his Paisley Park replica urn. Hell, the dude's known as the Purple One. But in a shocking new admission, the late singer's sister alleges that it's not even his favourite colour.

In an interview with the Evening Standard about an upcoming London exhibition featuring hundreds of pieces of Prince memorabilia, Tyka Nelson called her late brother's orange Cloud guitar the "stand-out" piece of the upcoming My Name Is Prince collection.

Then she dropped this bomb: "It is strange because people always associate the colour purple with Prince, but his favourite colour was actually orange."

UPDATE (8/31, 10:30 p.m. EDT): Now Prince's half-sister Sharon Nelson has told the Associated Press that "contrary to what has been said, purple was and is Prince's colour." Considering the chaos around Prince's estate following his passing, we can't say we're all that surprised that this is now shaping up to be some sort of bizarro colour-themed family feud.

Looks like Pantone may have to rethink their recently unveiled "Love Symbol #2" shade.

The aforementioned orange guitar will be amongst plenty of other pieces that haven't ever left Prince's Paisley Park estate until now at the My Name Is Prince exhibition. It opens at London's The 02 on October 27.

As previously reported, Paisley Park itself was granted museum status last year.
