Montreal-based DJ/producer Patrick Holland (aka Project Pablo) delivers another solid EP of groovy house with There's Always More at the Store, his second for Ninja Tune's Technicolour imprint. After a number of EPs (three in 2017 alone), Holland sounds very comfortable here, with some tastefully restrained cuts aimed at the after-party as opposed to the main event.

Opener "Napoletana" sets the mood well with a coolly bouncing bass line and synth melody, the latter riffing a few octaves higher once the beat disappears; it's a well-judged moment that should alert well-trained ears to potentially interesting things to come. And come they do; second track "Remind Me Tomorrow" is a slower burn, offering up some nocturnal and vaguely tropical vibes, conjuring moonlit waves and sand-strewn cocktail umbrellas.

A brief palate-cleansing piano interlude later, "Less and Less" snaps you back to reality with a cracking break-beat and more funky synth goodness. After this, standout closer "I Heard You Breathing" suddenly makes a case for being the best thing on the EP. It's perhaps a bit long at eight-and-a-half minutes, but its austere and mournful melody, floating airily above the busier rhythmic elements, might be what sticks with you when it's all said and done. It closes the EP smartly.

There's Always More at the Store is a solid addition to Holland's discography, and hopefully there is indeed more where this came from. After his prolific run lately, it's probably already on the way.
