Public Enemy Finally Reach Fundraising Goal to Pay for New Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 29, 2010

When we first learned that Public Enemy were hoping to raise $250,000 worth of fan donations to pay for their new album, we were skeptical. These doubts seemed to be confirmed when the fundraising website SellaBand collapsed and the group lowered their goal to a comparatively modest $75,000. Now, a year later, the experiment is over, and Public Enemy have declared it a success.

The Daily Swarm points to a message from Public Enemy on the revamped SellaBand website that reads, "We just received word that our fundraising campaign has completed. This is truly a great moment for us and we owe it all to our fams on SellaBand – our true 'Believers.'"

The post continues, "It has been a long and winding road. We've had explosive starts, media attention, corporate troubles, media criticism, recalculations and finally resurgence. When its all said and done, the bottom line is that we never lost faith in ourselves, our fams and the future of fan funding as a model."

Now that they have the money in hand, hopefully they won't waste any time in hitting the studio and beginning work on their new album, which will be their first since 2007's How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul??? Public Enemy are currently in Europe, playing a string on dates that ends on November 14.
