Garth Hudson, the final surviving member of the Band, has died at the age of 87.
Hudson died peacefully in his sleep at a nursing home in Woodstock, NY, his estate executor told the Toronto Star.
Born in Windsor and raised in London, ON, Hudson was the founding keyboardist and occasional saxophonist of the Band. He played in every incarnation of the lineup, from their formation as Bob Dylan's backing band in 1965 through to their final disbandment in 1999.
Before the Band, Hudson played in the group's early incarnation as the Hawks, backing up Ronnie Hawkins.
In his later years, he released solo music and played as a backing musician, including contributing to a couple of Neko Case albums.
