After further denying the allegations of sexual abuse against him in an interview with CBS This Morning, R. Kelly is back in police custody following a hearing concerning unpaid child support.
The Associated Press confirmed that Kelly was taken into custody by the Cook County Sheriff's Office following the hearing this afternoon. A Cook County Sheriff's Office official said the singer won't be released until he pays $161,000 USD in owed child support.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Kelly owes over $200,000 USD to his ex-wife Andrea Kelly. AP adds that Kelly's publicist, Darryll Johnson, told the publication that Kelly came to the hearing prepared to pay $50,000 to $60,000, but the judge wanted the full amount.
Johnson said that Kelly didn't have the whole amount because he hasn't been able to work. Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told AP that the singer's next hearing is slated for March 13.
As previously reported, R. Kelly was arrested on February 22 and charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail.
Kelly is due back in court to face those charges on March 22.
