R. Kelly has been charged with additional sex crimes, this time in Minneapolis, for engaging in prostitution with a minor.
As the New York Times reports, the charges stem from a promotional event in 2001, during which a 17-year-old fan asked for his autograph and received a piece of paper with a phone number on it. When she called the number, the girl was invited to Kelly's hotel and escorted to his suite by a staff member.
Once in the room, the girl (now a woman in her 30s) claims that Kelly offered her $200 USD to take off her clothes and dance with him. She accepted the offer, and he allegedly helped her remove her clothes before undressing himself, as well.
They then got into bed together, and she says he touched her all over her body, including her breasts and vagina.
She said that Kelly also offered her VIP seating to his concerts, which was restricted to people aged 21 and over.
The woman contacted authorities with her story through a tip line that was set up around the release of the Surviving R. Kelly documentary. Investigators interviewed the alleged victim, as well as her brother, who became suspicious of his sister's involvement with Kelly after she received front row tickets to his show.
The latest charge follows previously laid federal charges in New York and state charges in Cook County, IL.
Kelly has denied all allegations. He pleaded not guilty to the federal charges last week, and previously pleaded not guilty to the Cook County charges and was released on bail.
