While it's beginning to seem like anyone putting out weird, otherworldly post-hip-hop can lock down a Thom Yorke collaboration with ease, Peter Gabriel says the Radiohead front-man has stopped returning his calls. After Gabriel dropped his cover of Radiohead's "Street Spirit" on his upcoming Scratch My Back, Yorke had initially agreed to cover Gabriel's song "Wallflower." However, Gabriel now says Yorke is giving him the silent treatment.
Speaking with UK newspaper the Sun [via NME], Gabriel said, "I still haven't had a response from Thom Yorke. He originally wrote to say he wanted to do a version of 'Wallflower,' but I haven't heard what he thinks of my version of ['Street Spirit']... Not everyone likes it and I've no real idea whether he likes it or hates it."
If it seems as if Gabriel is being a little insecure, he probably is. The singer even went as far as stalking Yorke's listening habits. "We gave out codes for the artists to listen to their songs on a stream and we could see how many times they've heard them," he said. "I think he's only streamed 'Street Spirit' once, which isn't a good sign, but who knows?"
Perhaps Gabriel should pay attention to the signs: if you want to get Yorke's attention, you have to be dropping beats.
As previously reported, Scratch My Back is due out on February 16.
