When LCD Soundsystem broke up, they did so with an enormous farewell show and a subsequent documentary and impending vinyl box set. On the other hand, it looks as if their DFA Records cohorts the Rapture have broken up in a far more low-key manner.
Eyebrows were initially raised when Red Bull Music Academy unveiled its impending tribute to William Onyeabor, and the Rapture's frontman Luke Jenner — who is performing at event in May in New York — was listed as "ex-the Rapture."
Self-Titled [via Consequence of Sound] then followed up with DFA's Jonathan Galkin, who said in a statement, "I kept thinking it might blow over, but that might not be the case. Feel free to go to press with this headline: 'Did the Rapture Break Up and Not Tell Anyone?'"
In other words, there's still a question mark, but the prospects for the band's future don't look good.
The Rapture formed in the late '90s and were pioneers of the post-punk revival in the early 2000s, reaching their critical apex with the 2003 album Echoes. They have released four albums in all, most recently 2011's In the Grace of Your Love.
