Raudive

Chamber Music

BY Andrea AyottePublished Oct 4, 2010

UK-based producer Raudive (aka Oliver Ho) releases his debut album, Chamber Music, on German imprint label Macro. Throughout the last 14 years, Oliver Ho has gained mass appeal for his deep, tribal techno explorations and obscure DJ sets, catching the eye of Dan Bell, Ricardo Villalobos, Craig Richards and Sven Vath. As Raudive, Ho strips down his earlier dance floor aesthetic and combines various acoustic instruments to create an inventive, uniquely modern voice. With "Is It Dark In Here?," Oliver manages to make his percussion sounds minimal yet compellingly funky while incorporating eerie, floating vocals to carry it through. "Brittle" is a deep, organically evolving dance floor track that successfully builds around the rhythm, making for a deliciously hypnotic groove. "Tul" is a minimal, percussive house track propelled by the saxophone. Chamber Music is a magnificent album that skilfully combines a wide array of production styles into sultry minimal and experimental dance floor gems. Highly recommended.
