Real Estate are releasing their sixth album, Daniel, next month and have now announced that they'll be playing an album release show in Brooklyn for the occasion, as is fairly standard. What is fairly non-standard about the gig at Williamsburg's Union Pool on February 22 is that 1) it's free to attend, but 2) you have to have a first, middle or last name with some variation of Daniel.
Any Dans, Danielles, Daniellas, Danielsons, Dannys, etc., in the area are welcome. However, these rules do not apply to their plus-ones, so non-Dans still have a chance to get in. OnlyDans can RSVP here. Everyone else can catch them on tour elsewhere this year.
Real Estate have also released a new single today called "Haunted World," which, at first pass, must be about imagining living in a Daniel-less society. (Upon actually listening to it, I'm still kind of convinced!)
"'Haunted World' sounds like a '90s sitcom theme to us. Network execs — this song is available and we are ready and willing to sell to the highest bidder," the band's Martin Courtney said in a statement. "We're super happy with how this one turned out. We had a nice arrangement worked out before we headed to Nashville to record, but it really came to life in the studio. Sometimes a song will surprise you like that."
Whether or not you're a Daniel derivative, you can listen to the lap steel-woven "Haunted World" below.
