Although this Austin, TX, quartet started out as a Green Day cover band back in high school, there is absolutely no trace of derivative three-chord power pop on this record. Instead, Recover has replaced the influence of their early idols with the hectic drop-tuned melodic-metal stomp of bands like Helmet and Barkmarket. Adding to the dynamic impact of the music is the duelling vocal styles of Dan Keyes and Robert Mann, giving Rodeo and Picasso a certain Grade-ishness. Not exceptionally original in its conception, but a study of excellence in execution.
