Red Knife Lottery

So Much Drama

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Aug 1, 2005

Red Knife Lottery are a punky, garage-meets-screamo quartet from Wisconsin who create engaging under four-minute ditties in the vein of Pretty Girls Make Graves. Their latest effort, (no doubt the punk counterpart to Mary J. Blige’s similarly-titled album) is So Much Drama. There’s definitely some Karen O in lead vocalist Ashley Chapman’s distorted, sing-speak wail, most noticeably on "The Magnificent Ghost.” While Red Knife Lottery have some clichéd themes in some of their songs ("Red Knives and Plastic Wives” has some lyrical moments that are cringe worthy), overall the album is worthy of a listen.
