Back in the fall, Regina Spektor announced that her new album would be called What We Saw from the Cheap Seats and suggested that it would likely come out in May. Well, clearly the Soviet-born pop singer is obviously a woman of her word, since she has confirmed that the LP will be arriving on May 29 via Sire Records/Warner Bros.
The Los Angeles recording sessions found Spektor reuniting with producer Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Fiona Apple), who also worked on 2009's Far. Scroll to the bottom of this page to hear the dark and dramatic single "All the Rowboats," which blends Regina's piano playing with electro-tinged studio flourishes.
That photo of Regina in goofy hat that you can see above is the cover art. She told Rolling Stone, "I got that hat in Japan when I played there, and I had to stuff it with a T-shirt so it didn't get smushed, but it still got a little smushed. I tried this hat on and it had this fun conductor-hat vibe, and the drummer I was playing with was like, 'You have to get the hat. you have to get it.' I got it and brought it home and was like, 'Great, I'm never going to wear this hat.'"
