Rehearsal Factory once dominated Toronto's jam space market, but following a string of closures in the past couple years, the company's final space has now been sold to Lynx Music and will continue as a practice facility for musicians.
Rehearsal Factory previously operated seven facilities throughout Toronto, Hamilton and the GTA, but that number had been whittled down to one: 160 Islington Avenue in Etobicoke. That spot is now known as Lynx Monthlies, and it's the second space operated by Lynx Music, whose main facility is at 260 Emerson Avenue in Toronto.
"The Lynx Music team is extremely excited to continue the legacy of Rehearsal Factory and offer affordable and secure monthly music studio rentals in addition to our hourly rental studios to the Toronto music community," Lynx Music co-owner Ryan Altschuler said in a statement.
The rooms range from 75 square feet up to 1,030 square feet, with rates starting at $250 per month. They offer 24-hour access, camera security and free Wi-Fi.
The news that 160 Islington will continue to operate as a practice space is good news for Toronto musicians. Controversially, the former Rehearsal Factory on Geary Avenue was sold to a megachurch that opposes gay marriage.
