Experimental British pop outfit Broadcast are collaborating with Julian House's the Focus Group for a new EP to be released on Warp Records next month.
According to The Wire [via Fact Magazine], the 50-minute record has 23 tracks and will be called Broadcast and the Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age. The musical collaboration is the group's first with House, who's also the co-founder of the Ghost Box label, However, he and Broadcast have worked together extensively in the past, as they are longtime friends and House has designed all of Broadcast's album covers.
"Initially we sent [House] a selection of sounds, from full improvised recordings to individual components of existing songs," Broadcast's James Cargill told The Wire. "We all liked the idea of our songs becoming entangled with the sound of the Focus Group... We then spent a weekend putting it all together. It was interesting the way a strange narrative started to develop, the songs seemed to be responding to the sound around them, even with the lyrics."
And while Warp has yet to confirm the release date of the Witch Cults of the Radio Age, several online retailers list the release date as October 27.
In some related news, another Broadcast-related release will hit the streets this month as well, when the debut album by former Broadcast member Roj, The Transactional Dharma of Roj, gets its release on Ghost Box.
And, as we recently told you, Broadcast will be playing some U.S. and Canadian shows in October and November with Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound project.
