During a recent trip to Mexico, harmony-heavy Calgary folk act Reuben and the Dark had a chance meeting with Florence + the Machine's manager, Mariead Nash. This led to the band heading to London, UK, to record a single with Florence's drummer Christopher Lloyd Hayden. Now, that single has emerged online as the band prepare to hit the road in Canada.
It's easy to see why a song like "Shoulder Blade" would be appealing Florence + the Machine's people, since it swells from a ghostly folk number to a dramatic and lushly produced crescendo (although this is much more restrained than Florence's mega-anthems). Take a listen at the bottom of the page.
An EP is planned for early 2013 via Luv Luv Luv Records. This will follow the full-length Man Made Lakes, which came out in January of this year.
As for the band's upcoming tour, they will be on the road for approximately a month from October to November. In that time, they will travel from British Columbia to Ontario and play shows along along the way. They have 16 gigs in all. See the schedule below.
